In April 2017 Thomas Blank took up his position as the new Head of Development at Hübner Giessen. This has strengthened our position in the field of innovative product development. His goal is to conclude a root and branch review by the end of the first one hundred days. Forward-looking answers are required for questions regarding the implementation of an extensive roadmap for new products. A key to this is the progressive definition of the platform strategy. The range of topics under consideration also includes the potential for improving our development processes and project management.
Just who is Thomas Blank?
Thomas Blank successfully completed his degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Hanover, Germany. After gaining experience as a development engineer for information systems his career path took him to new and exciting challenges as a project manager, head of department, head of development, head of a development centre for embedded systems and head of a business division for order processing. One area of focus was the design conception and implementation of functionally reliable systems for the aviation industry, railway technology, automotive engineering, industrial engineering and medical technology. Product development has clearly been a central theme throughout the career of the 54 year old, which he has been able to get to know in widely different facets and branches.
Although Thomas Blank is still feeling his way round, he is already beginning to feel astonishingly well settled at Hübner Giessen. “I am quickly learning about the company by way of the operative topics”, says Mr Blank, “and they are not in short supply”. However, this level of familiarity can also most certainly be traced back to the high level of acceptance since joining the company: “Without exception I receive obliging support from my new colleagues”, Thomas Blank continues.
“I have always done the things that have inspired me”, says Mr Blank and includes both his professional and his private life in this retrospective insight. “And that has been the right approach to take! The job as head of development appealed to me when I was relatively young. Then, gradually, doors began to open that offered me opportunities to gain new perspectives and experience in this wide ranging occupation. Head of development as a passion, so to speak.”
His family is his source of strength. He makes use of every free minute for sport and activities in the natural surroundings of the local Oberberg district. Hiking proves just as enjoyable as swimming in the Bigge reservoir of an evening during the summer months. And, anybody who lives in the Oberberg region of Germany can scarcely do without a motorbike. He values his activities as a welcome work-life balance. The dancing class on Sunday evenings is the weekly highlight – to which he naturally rides his motorbike.
